You’ve all heard the phrase “breakfast is the most important meal of the day”. I totally agree!
Whether you eat breakfast at 8am or noon, the first thing you put into your body can affect or disrupt your bodily function.
That’s not to say I always follow advice. I admit that my kids do eat cold cereal, but I do try to have healthy breakfast ideas a lot. đ
I’ve put together a list of my favorite healthy breakfast ideas, but first some tips…
make breakfast healthy
Here are some ideas to help you make your first meal healthy:
- plan menu: Don’t make unhealthy hunger choices at the last minute when you’ve already decided what to eat. You can also make sure to add all the required ingredients to your shopping list. You can’t eat what you don’t have.
- keep things simple: Don’t feel like you have to make a fancy four-course breakfast. You can offer a hearty, balanced breakfast with just one or two courses. If you really like a hearty breakfast, choose a Saturday or Sunday morning for something fancier. You can even serve a bigger breakfast with dinner.
- Prepare in advance: If you like to eat cut fruit for breakfast, prepare food for several days. Many other recipes can be made ahead and stored in the refrigerator, freezer, or counter. All you have to do is reheat when needed.
make it sweet
Sometimes healthy foods are not suitable for kids, and even some adults, but adding the wrong type of sweetener can quickly turn a recipe from healthy to unhealthy. You might be tempted to add syrup to your protein pancakes or add a teaspoon of white sugar to a smoothie, but here are some healthy ways to sweeten the dish:
- ripe banana
- coconut or pure maple syrup
- raw honey
- Unsweetened Applesauce
- unsweetened dried fruit
- sugar substitutes like stevia
Simple and Healthy Breakfast Ideas
One of the easiest breakfasts you can make is a smoothie.
All you have to do is toss the ingredients into the blender and blend! Smoothies are great because you can control exactly what and how much you put in. From produce to protein powders, you can make delicious healthy shakes.
Of course, smoothies are not if only Simple and healthy breakfast! I like to make a batch of protein snacks or healthy pancakes and keep them in the fridge or freezer for a quick and easy breakfast throughout the week.

Not every muffin is the same. I’ve had some delicious sugary muffins that should be called cupcakes. When you’re looking for healthy muffins, pay attention to the ingredients.
To make your favorite muffin recipe healthier, try:
- Substitute applesauce for butter/oil
- Reduce the amount of sugar.
- Substitute whole wheat flour for white flour, or a mixture of the two.
- Add fresh fruit or vegetables. You may need to add more flour to compensate for the added moisture and increase the baking time slightly.
