Churro Funnel Cake Disneyland imitator

Churro Funnel Cake Disneyland imitator

If you have ever eaten the Churo Funnel Cake at Disneyland, you will know why it is the most popular treat! It is made of deep-fried funnel cake, coated with cinnamon sugar, topped with caramel sauce, and topped with whipped cream.

It’s like a funnel cake and sugary fritters combined into a delicious dessert! This is definitely an imitation recipe that we often make at home.

Our favorite Disney treat!

I know I have a lot of “favorite” Disney foods (such as Churro Toffee or Safari Skewers), but when I say this is my favorite treat/dessert so far, I’m not kidding! I get one (or two, or three…) every time I go to Disneyland!

This is everything you like about deep-fried funnel cakes, but covered with delicious cinnamon icing like fried dough sticks. To make it the same as Disneyland, I drizzled caramel syrup on my fritter funnel cake, and then topped it with a pile of Mickey Mouse-shaped whipped cream.

I cannot decide if I am happy to finally make a version of this recipe at home, or if I am worried about my waistline because I can get this treat anytime. 😉 Anyway, I hope you can try this recipe and *almost* enjoy it like me.

How to make fritters funnel cake

Prepare. Pour vegetable oil into a frying pan (about 1 inch high) and use medium high heat (you want it to be around 350 degrees). Put the cinnamon and sugar in a shallow dish and stir well. Set aside.

Batter. Mix eggs and milk. Add salt, baking powder and flour in a medium bowl until it becomes a smooth batter. Pour the batter into the funnel and block the tip of the funnel with your fingers.

saute. If you have a metal funnel cake ring, put it in oil. Place the funnel on the hot oil and move your fingers slowly to make the batter flow out continuously. Do circular and cross movements to form a funnel cake. (If using a ring, first pour the batter on the edges about 3 times, then cross in the middle). Cook for about 1-2 minutes on each side. Turn the funnel cake with tongs to brown all sides. Move to a paper towel to drain for a few seconds.

Toppings. Dip the funnel cake in the cinnamon and sugar mixture and use a spoon to make sure it falls on the funnel cake. Top with caramel and top with Mickey-shaped whipped cream.

Recipe tips

  • The oil must be hot! If possible, use a thermometer to bring it to about 350 degrees.
  • Squeeze bottles are actually more effective than funnels. Find an old ketchup bottle or similar clean thing, you can pour the batter into it. It makes the cooking of funnel cake easier.
  • Use spatula and pliers. Use tongs to make sure the batter is soaked in the oil, then use tongs and a metal spatula to flip the cake.

More tips + storage

Pre-made and frozen Mickey Cream Filling:

  1. Line the baking sheet with wax or parchment paper.
  2. Put the top with an asterisk (such as Ateco #32) into a pastry bag, and then fill the bag with whipped cream.
  3. Extrude the shape of Mickey’s head onto wax paper with a tube. Start the “face” from the center and move outward in a circular motion until the desired circumference is reached. Use the same technique with the top of the ear.
  4. Put it in the refrigerator. When your funnel cakes are finished cooking, they will be set up and ready to use. The frozen shape will ensure you have a beautiful piping design, and the heat of the funnel cake will soften the frozen butter to make butter fritters.

If you prefer to pipe the whipped cream directly onto the fried dough sticks, you can. Simply fill the piping bag with whipped cream and put it in the refrigerator until you are ready to fill it up. You can also keep it in the refrigerator, but make sure it is not too cold so that you can’t squeeze out anything.

Another option to get a cream design is to use canned whipped cream.

in advance: These are really best to eat right away. However, you can mix the batter and store it in the refrigerator for up to 5 days before use. This is also a good way to store leftover batter.

The remaining Churro funnel cake can be stored in an airtight container Store at room temperature for 1-2 days or freeze for up to 3 months. Be sure to wrap each cake individually with plastic wrap, and then put them in the Ziploc refrigerator.

recover: For soft funnel cake, you can heat it in the microwave for a few seconds. For crisper cakes, you can put them in the oven or toaster oven.
