Review: La Voile Rouge – BBC Middle Eastern Food

La Voile Rouge, recently opened at DIFC’s Al Fattan Currency House, offers a luxurious culinary experience that takes you to the elegant beaches of Saint-Tropez

The walls of the dining room are painted a stunning Mediterranean blue, giving the space an elegant and relaxing feel. A wall-mounted black and white photo frame showcases entertainment director Richard Dero’s memories of his summers in St Tropez. The memories add a personal touch to the location, including photos of Richard’s old friends, as well as highlights of celebrities, supermodels and politicians.

The plates are thoughtfully designed and color-coded for guests. Ladies get red plates and gentlemen get blue plates. Running the kitchen at La Voile Rouge is the talented and ambitious chef Junior Nadje. La Voile Rouge has more than 15 years of experience in the restaurant industry and has sourced the finest and freshest ingredients precisely over a ten-month period, and its seasonal menus demonstrate sustainable high-quality products to present honesty and authenticity dishes.

La Voile Rouge takes you back to the island way of life, where the sun never sets and the sandy coastline beckons. The venue is inspired by tropical landscapes and seaside flavors.

Highlights

The menu presents French Mediterranean specialities. First, I ordered the snails as I haven’t eaten them in a long time and they brought back childhood memories. Buttery, rich and full of flavor, they’re the perfect start to the evening. I also tried the sea bass carpaccio with olive oil, espelette peppers and chopped chives on the recommendation of the charismatic waiter, which really enhanced the freshness of the dish and the texture of the fish.

When the main course came, I opted for the Josper grilled octopus, which was vibrant, tender, cooked and seasoned very well. My dining partner tried the tomato lobster risotto and described it as rich, soft and luxurious.

We don’t have enough room for dessert, but next time we will definitely try the Caramel Cookie Skillet.

judgment: Enjoy an impeccable dining experience in a chic space at très. Perfect for intimate dining, business dinners and date nights.
