Roasted Holi Holi Chicken Recipe

Roasted Holi Holi Chicken Recipe

This grilled holi holi chicken is the most juicy and delicious Hawaiian chicken you have ever tried! It’s great to eat alone or with rice or noodles! !

We like to bake all kinds of things in the summer, especially meat! Steak, burger, and the best-chicken! In addition to our classic chicken marinade, we love this grilled Huli Huli chicken!

What is Huli Huli Chicken?

Huli Huli chicken was created in Hawaii in the 1950s. It turned out that this kind of chicken was cooked in the pit, so it inherited the name huli huli or turn turn chicken.

I ate it for the first time in our neighbor’s house in Texas. They have lived in Hawaii for a few years and their husband is an avid barbecue enthusiast. One of the meats he cooked for us is this huli huli chicken. I am totally in love with this dish and know I need a recipe!

Through a lot of research and digging, I found a recipe that I think tastes very similar! Very juicy, mainly salty, with a little sweetness. Really tasty!

Cook on a frying pan or outside grill!

huli huli sauce + grill instructions

The following are the ingredients of the sauce/marinade:

  • brown sugar
  • ketchup
  • soy sauce
  • Chicken brother
  • Ginger
  • Minced garlic

Pickled. Mix your marinade together and reserve 1 cup for later use. Put the chicken and marinade together in a ziplock bag and let it sit for at least a few hours. The longer the time, the better! I like to put it in the refrigerator overnight.

Plancha. Discard the marinade on the chicken and thighs until they are no longer pink (approximately 8 minutes per side), and coat with additional marinade when grilling.

Can I make this in the oven? If for some reason you cannot roast this chicken, you can use your oven. Preheat the oven to 375°F. Fry the chicken in a frying pan with a little oil, then place the chicken on the baking tray. Bake for 15-20 minutes until the juice is clear and the internal temperature reaches 165°F.

Can I use chicken breast? Absolutely! Chicken breasts are a lean meat that cooks faster, so be aware of them to prevent them from drying out. Otherwise, all steps are the same. You can also use pork chops.

Frozen meal

Make delicious frozen meals by freezing chicken in the marinade!

Use freeze-safe ziploc bags and vent as much air as possible before sealing. Store flat and freeze for up to 6 months. When you are ready to use it, thaw the bag in the refrigerator overnight. The chicken will continue to be marinated when it is thawed and is ready to be thrown on the grill.

How do I store leftovers? Leftover chicken can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3-4 days, or in a freezer-safe airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 months. Reheat in the microwave or oven.

I am seriously obsessed with this chicken recipe. It is so good! ! Be sure to keep enough sauce because it will be better when it is still juicy.

I think I need to cook it again and serve it with almond salad, fried wontons and Asian balsamic vinegar. I think it will be amazing! ! You can also try to use:

Most importantly, I am so happy that I can make this recipe at home without having to travel all the way to Hawaii for this mouth-watering chicken. 🙂
