I just love Thanksgiving. Is there anything better than getting all your friends and family together for a big meal? Especially when that meal involves turkey, rolls and mashed potatoes? I don’t think so!

You can’t eat any other Thanksgiving dinner staple without cranberry sauce! It’s as essential as rolls and potatoes! Having said that, forget about canned cranberry sauce and go straight to homemade! It’s worth it – trust me.

This recipe is all you need to make a delicious bowl of cranberry sauce. It’s super easy and perfect for making ahead. It will keep in the refrigerator for a while, so it’s perfect for leftover turkey sandwiches. Ok!

How to Make Cranberry Sauce

berry. You’ll need about 1 pound of fresh cranberries for this recipe. Wash and dry them before you start!

boil. Combine cranberries, sugar, and water in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Bring everything to a boil, then bring the mixture to a boil. Add the cinnamon stick, allspice, and nutmeg.

It also freezes beautifully! To prevent freezer burn, make sure to keep it in an airtight freezer-safe container. Use it within two months for best results. Let it thaw overnight in the refrigerator before you’re ready to serve.

Cranberry Sauce is delicious with just about every other Thanksgiving/Holiday dish. Serve it on the side of the roast turkey. Spread it on soft homemade rolls. Or combine it with your mashed potato and green bean casserole. No matter how you eat it, it’s the most delicious side dish that will never go out of style!

  • 1 pound fresh cranberries washed and dried
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 1/3 cup water
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1/2 teaspoon allspice powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg powder
  • 1 orange zest and juice
  • Place cranberries, sugar and water in a medium pot over medium heat. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat to low and add cinnamon stick, allspice, and nutmeg. Simmer for 5-7 minutes. (Some cranberries will burst, some will stay whole).

  • Add orange juice and peel. Cool before serving.
