Favorite Pico de Gallo Recipes (+ Video)
Everyone loves a good pico recipe! This version calls for tomatoes, green peppers, onions, cilantro, lime juice, and salt, and it’s so addicting!
What is Pico de Gallo?
Picco de Gallo. Most of you have had this before and probably didn’t even realize it. You might think of it as a salsa, but it’s a generally beefier salsa with chopped tomato, onion, cilantro, salt, and lime juice.
Other ingredients can be added, like avocado, but if you’re anywhere in the Southwest, you’ve probably already served this with tacos, salads, or burritos at restaurants. Most Arizonans are huge fans, so we wanted to share our recipes with you today.
We’ve been making pico for family events for a long time, but this particular recipe was adapted from a friend of my mom’s. Aside from the time it takes to chop the veggies, this recipe is super easy and perfect for making chips or serving with any Mexican food. These ingredients combine to create a delicious, fresh, and irresistible topping for any Mexican dish.
How to Make a Pico de Gallo
It can be customized with your favorite ingredients, but these are the pico ingredients we use:
- purple onion
- Roma tomatoes
- coriander
- minced garlic
- green pepper
- garlic salt
- lime juice
- avocado (optional)
To make pico, chop all ingredients (except pico) and place in a bowl. Refrigerate until ready to eat. Just before serving, add cilantro and avocado if desired.
Served with hot nachos it will be the highlight of any party or gathering. It was so good and so addicting! !
Just like we love avocados, we also love green peppers. They are the perfect addition to this pico! Since we love so much Mexican food, you better believe we’ll make this pico de gallo to serve it all. 🙂
