Shredded chicken

Chicken is the best. It is cheap, tastes great when properly cooked and seasoned, and is delicious in about a million recipes. In addition, it is an important source of protein in our body! You can roast the chicken in the oven, roast it outside, cook in a crock pot, or in a pan on the stove! It is versatile.

One of my favorite ways to eat and use chicken is to chop it. Throw it into enchiladas, soups, salads, dips, appetizers and more! Sometimes shredding chicken can seem daunting, and it can even be a chore. This is the source of this article. We will let you know some secrets of shredded chicken! I will also tell you my favorite recipe using shredded chicken. let’s start!

How to make shredded chicken

As I mentioned, there are several different ways to cook chicken. Almost any method can be used to make shredded chicken (including roasting in the oven), but the two most tender and crumbly methods I have found are slow cookers and instant pots.

Crockpot Chicken Shreds

I like the crockpot method because it is very simple. Place your chicken breasts in a clay pot, drizzle with olive oil, and season with salt and pepper. Cook on low for 8 hours, or cook on high for 3-4 hours. Remove and chop while hot.

Instant Pot Chicken Shreds

If you are short on time, you can use the pressure cooker at any time! Put two pounds of chicken breast with 1⁄2 cup of water and your favorite seasoning in the Instant Pot. Put the lid on and set the Instant Pot to manual setting for 12 minutes if the chicken is frozen, and 9 minutes if it is thawed.

After cooking, let the Instant Pot vent by itself for 10 minutes. Then, manually release the remaining pressure in the Instant Pot, open the lid, take out the chicken, and chop it.

How to chop chicken

After the chicken is cooked, we like to chop it in several different ways. The most common are the technique and the cross method. The technique is basically to tear the chicken into pieces with your hands. Make sure your hands are clean and the chicken has completely cooled-hot chicken = oops! The fork method requires two forks. Tear the chicken into pieces with a fork. Forks do the job faster and easier than manual methods.

My favorite way to chop chicken is the stand mixer method! Have you heard of this? If you haven’t, I will change your life. This is the easiest and fastest way! Make sure your chicken is still warm, then put it in a stand mixer. Put the flat agitator or paddle and accessories on 2 speed for 30-60 seconds. You will be surprised how fast it shatters.

Frozen chicken shreds

How to freeze shredded chicken? It’s really easy, and we have been doing it. In fact, we cook a pile of chicken at the beginning of each month, bag it and freeze it, as the meal of the month.

After the chopped chicken is completely cooled, you can divide it into 1 cup or 2 cups (depending on how much you think you use at a time), put it in a ziplock bag or airtight container, and store it in the refrigerator. If stored properly, chicken can maintain good quality for about 4 months. It is safe to eat at any time after that, but it will taste best during that time.

When you are ready to use it in a recipe, you can take a single serving from the refrigerator and thaw it in the refrigerator overnight. Or, if it is used for something cooked like a soup or casserole, you should be able to put it directly into the recipe.

We definitely love some of our chicken shreds! We use it in many recipes and like to have it on hand because it is the perfect complement to any meal.
