Broccoli Cauliflower Salad with Homemade Dressing

This broccoli and broccoli salad is refreshing, simple and quick. We often look for simple salads, especially for barbecues, family gatherings and holidays. This salad is perfect for this occasion.
The salad is not only bright, fresh and crunchy, but the combination of broccoli, cauliflower, cheese, bacon and sunflower seeds is also delicious. The homemade dressing we also use in our regular broccoli salad takes it to the next level.
Each ingredient in this salad has its own delicious texture and flavor, making this salad perfect for your next gathering. Feel free to add or omit any ingredients you want or don’t want, but we like the combination of these ingredients.
This salad dressing requires ¾ cup of light mayonnaise, which may scare you a bit, but I guarantee that every calorie is worth it. It is a bit sweet and super creamy. Yes, if you want, you can use full-fat mayonnaise, but the light works well!
To make the seasoning, mix the mayonnaise with a little sugar, salt and red wine vinegar, and you are done. The seasoning is the perfect consistency, you can coat every piece of the salad to get the perfect taste!
If you make the dressing ahead of time, just store it in the refrigerator until you are ready to add it to the salad.
How to make broccoli cauliflower salad
This broccoli, cauliflower and bacon salad is not only delicious, it may be the simplest salad you have ever made! You need to do some preparatory work first.
Chop the ingredients. Cook and crumble the bacon (Have you ever cooked bacon in the oven? Check it out!). Dice fresh broccoli and finely chop the cauliflower head. You also need to dice ½ red onion. Now that everything is ready, let’s make the salad.
Combine. In a large bowl, mix broccoli, cauliflower, bacon, sunflower seeds, cheese, and red onion. Set it aside when preparing the dressing.
Add dressing. Whisk together the mayonnaise, sugar, vinegar, and salt, and put the dressing in a small bowl. After all is mixed, pour it on the salad, then stir and spread on each piece. Refrigerate the salad before serving, so it’s delicious and cold.
Change the ingredients according to your liking! Try different cheeses or nuts to add different flavors, including:
- Shredded Cheddar Cheese or Monterey Jack Cheese
- Chopped walnuts
- Add craisins
Advance + store
One step ahead. This dressing is great for making in advance-just prepare the dressing and keep it in the refrigerator until you are ready to use it. Also chop up all the ingredients in advance!
You can even put them together in a bowl and put them in the refrigerator until they are ready to be eaten with the seasoning. I like to prepare a salad when I need it.
storage. Make sure to store this salad in an airtight container in the refrigerator. It should last up to 3-4 days!

- 12 slices of bacon cooked and crushed
- 1 head of fresh broccoli, diced
- 1 head cauliflower, chopped
- 1/2 diced red onion
- 3/4 cup sunflower seeds
