Review: Ushna – BBC Middle Eastern Food

Ushna, an indigenous concept, open its door In 2005, it became increasingly popular among local and international guests.lie in exist Souk Madinat Jumeirah, Ushna, which means “warm” in Hindi, serves authentic and modern Indian cuisine

Drawing inspiration from centuries-old traditions, the complex flavours and textures of Indian cooking are given a modern twist. This helps to redefine and modernize traditional dishes.

Highlights:

The open bar allows you to indulge in watching the bartenders in a beautiful setting with pleasant tones. After a quick look around, we were seated at a table by the window with stunning views around Souk Madinat Jumeirah.

The menu contains a glossary of Indian ingredients, cooking styles and flavors, which is useful for those unfamiliar with Indian cuisine. When we were seated, the waiter greeted us warmly and recommended Ushna’s signature concoction. My partner, a big fan of Moscow mules, opted for the Indian version of the “Delhi Mule,” consisting of homemade Indian spice syrup and lemon juice. I opted for “Chase Me,” a creative blend of apple and lemon juice that’s slightly tart but incredibly refreshing.

To whet our appetites, we tried the prawn noodles with garlic, fresh coriander, mint and tamarind sauce. The prawns are batter-fried and juicy, while the garlic adds a bit of glamour to the dish. We went on to the garlic chilli prawns and the spicy peanut sauce, the amount of chilli was just right and it was delicious.

Tandoori chicken tikka with bawang mirch and chimichurri sauce was our main course of choice. Soft and slightly spiced, it perfectly captures all its richness. Highly recommend the lamb chop bharra, marinated with ginger, malt vinegar and cumin potatoes. It’s well balanced and very juicy.

After a short break, we tried the dessert plate as it had all the pudding flavour parts. My favorite is the syrup fried milk dumplings, which are crunchy and delicious. Another star dish is kesar pista kulfi (frozen milk with pistachios, berries and rice flour), which has a natural sweetness and rich aroma.
