Iftar Review: Bombay Bungalow – BBC Middle Eastern Food
Highlights:
We sat inside and it was a particularly warm day and immediately received the iftar set. Break the fast with dates and dried fruit, followed by special Ramadan drinks including tamarind, apricot or your choice of sweetened or salted Lassi; and traditional Arabic coffee.
The family-style sharing experience draws inspiration from traditional homemade Indian classics and incorporates Middle Eastern cuisine.
Soon, a selection of traditional and modern hot and cold mezze arrives, accompanied by an aromatic and soul-satisfying lentil soup. We enjoyed a delicious Fattoush garnished with ruby red pomegranate jewels and a drizzle of sweet tamarind chutney, then sampled from the trio – hummus with black and white sesame seeds, hummus with fresh mango and hummus with beetroot – — All of these interesting mixes that impressed us. We were told the restaurant would be switching dishes from the iftar menu to keep diners excited. So you can expect to find different dipping sauces like mutabal and different main dishes.
Hot dishes follow, or a delicious vegetable samosas with mint chutney. These two bites were one of our favorite dishes of the night. Khatta beef (black lemon and cardamom) is served on a large bun with thick hummus; while wood-fired succulent Murgh methi tikka (chicken pieces seasoned with fenugreek) and Hara Bhara kebab ( Fried patties made with green vegetables) on a thick, hearty pancake (unleavened bread).
The main event was a big bowl of Biryani of the day, which happened to be chicken. I love fragrant rice and juicy chicken. When my dining mates helped themselves with the curry of the day, in this case it was a deep red beef Vindaloo and a creamy lamb korma, served with naan and roast. To say we are absolutely full now would be an understatement.
Since every meal ends with a delicious dessert, we shared a Moong dal kunafeh that satisfied our every sweet craving.
