My favorite is when I can get fresh tomatoes and basil from my garden. I may or may not repeatedly point out to the kids that we grow these ingredients!
Whether you make the dough from scratch or opt for store-bought convenience, this easy pizza is sure to blow your mind. It’s time to start your slicing!
How to make
Prepare. Preheat oven to 500 degrees. We like to use a pizza stone and toss it in while the oven is preheating for at least 15 minutes.
Dough and sauce. If it’s homemade, make the sauce. Also, if you want to make your own, make homemade pizza dough. You can skip this step if you are using a store that buys for both.
roll. Roll out pizza dough to about 14-15 inches in diameter on a lightly floured surface. **If you want more crust, be sure to fold the outer edges of the pizza dough before adding the sauce and toppings.
Pizza Stone: If using a pizza stone, quickly and carefully transfer the dough to the stone, add the sauce (leave a little on the edges for the crust), cheese, tomatoes, and pizza seasoning, and place in the oven.
Baking pan: If you don’t use a stone, you can place the rolled out dough on a lightly greased baking sheet. Then, add the sauce, cheese, toppings and bake.
bake. Bake for about 5 minutes, then rotate the pizza and bake for another 7-8 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is melted. Garnish with fresh basil.
Tips for the Perfect Pizza
cheese: Shred your own cheese. The pre-chopped, packaged ones won’t melt either.
Sauce: Using store-bought sauces is quick and easy, but you can’t really beat homemade ones.try our Red Pizza Sauce and our Homemade Pizza Seasoning.
Blind Bake: Sometimes my pizza dough is hard to cook in the middle. Using toppings that provide more liquid, such as tomatoes, can also make the dough a bit soggy. I find that blind baking the dough first helps get everything fully cooked. Shape the dough and bake uncovered for about 6 minutes. Remove the dough from the oven, add the toppings, and continue to bake until the pizza is cooked.
storage tips
Freeze in advance: Blind bake the original pizza crust for 6-8 minutes. Place it on a cardboard or pizza pan, add toppings, and place in the refrigerator. Once frozen solid, wrap pizza in plastic wrap, then aluminum foil. Freeze for 4-5 months. Remove the package and thaw for about 30 minutes before baking.
storage: Wrap leftover pizza in foil or place in an airtight container and keep in the refrigerator for about 3 days. You can also freeze it for 1-2 months. Reheat in oven or microwave.
