a lean burger
Burgers are a staple in our house any time of the year. We won’t limit this American dish to grilling season.
I do like to mix flavors and add some twists here and there. This version is a healthy twist with lots of flavor! Turkey burgers are lower in fat, which makes them healthier, but also means they can dry out or burn easily.
To make sure these were packed with flavor, I increased the spice, added some soy sauce, and used eggs and bread crumbs to hold them together.
The result is a delicious healthy twist and a delicious burger!

mix. Add all ingredients to a large bowl and mix together.
form. Divide the meat into 6 portions. Press each portion into a 6-inch round patty (patties will shrink when cooked). After the patties are formed, use the back of a spoon to indent slightly in the middle of each pie. This will help keep the patties from puffing up in the middle.
Cook. Heat a pan to medium-low heat and cook the patties to an internal temperature of 180°F. This will be 3-5 minutes on each side.
Bake it!
I cook burgers in a pan, but they are just as delicious on the grill.
Prepare. Coating clean grates with vegetable oil will help keep them from sticking.
Baked. Grill over medium-high heat for 5 minutes, covered, until grill marks appear. Flip and bake for another 3-5 until cooked. (180°F)
Tips + Storage Information
Turkey burgers are often dry. There are several factors to keep in mind that can lead to this…
- Fat content: Turkey is often chosen because it is a lean meat. However, try to stay between 93/7 or 97/3% fat. A little fat will help make a juicy burger, but too much fat will make your burger too soggy to stick together.
- Overcooking: I admit that the first few burgers I made didn’t do well because my stove was too high and they were overcooked. The internal temperature of the turkey burger should be 165°F.
do it in advance: The patties can be formed up to two days in advance and stored in the ridges until you are ready to cook.
arrive shop, separate the patties with parchment paper and place in an airtight container.
freeze Meatloaf up to 6 months.
