Various pastries!

Pastries can be sweet or salty, baked or fried, large or bite-sized.

When an item contains a higher fat content and produces a thinner texture, it is considered mushy. Many breakfast pastries are eaten as desserts, but not all pastries are like this.

Common pastries that are also breakfast foods include: croissants, Danishes, doughnuts, pies, strudels, puffs, strudels, cream rolls, sweet rolls and pies.

Breakfast pastry tips

Pastry dough is as versatile as the pastry itself. However, there are a few things to keep in mind when making any type of dough.

  1. After adding more water, the pastry becomes less soft, so make sure to maintain the correct balance.
  2. Adding too much flour can also upset the balance and produce a harder dough.
  3. Adding too much fat will cause the dough to become crispy.
  4. Excessive handling and rolling of the dough can cause excessive gluten development, thereby reducing the softness of the dough.
  5. In order for fat to do its magic, it needs to be kept cold. For this reason, many recipes require you to cool the dough at least once.

Cut off the fat: Most breakfast pastry recipes will instruct you to cut flour and fat (shortening or butter) together and mix them together. This is a very important step. The easiest way is to use a pastry knife, but a fork will also work. Just press the cutter down over the fat and flour until the fat lumps are as big as dry rice or cornmeal.

Although I don’t recommend eating sweet pastries often at breakfast, they are also delicious occasionally. 😉

  • Optional cherry filling: add cherry pie on a piece of cream cheese.

  • Dip the pastry brush into the egg/water mixture. Brush the top of the exposed puffed paste with the mixture. Sprinkle powdered sugar on the exposed pastry.
