Slimy oatmeal pie 10 minute pie filling!

Easy Oatmeal Pie is an old-fashioned favorite! With a delicious brown sugar flavor, chewy oatmeal and crispy crust-this is the perfect pie recipe.

Of all the pie recipes we make, we certainly like classic recipes such as chocolate cream pie or lime pie, but we have a new love for this unique recipe similar to pecan pie.

Cousin of Pecan Pie

If you like pecan pie, you must try this oatmeal pie. It has the same stickiness, brown sugar, and caramel flavor-but instead of crunchy pecans, it has a chewy layer of oatmeal.

I have heard that this kind of oat pie is called amish oat pie. I also read that it was made in the South during the Civil War to replace the pecan pie. Until recently, this was a new pie recipe for me, but I will definitely make it again and again because it is so delicious!

This oatmeal pie is delicious, with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on it. I like to serve it with pumpkin pie or apple pie during the holidays.

How to make oatmeal pie

This pie is actually super easy to make. The filling is completed in 10 minutes. To save time, you can use store-bought pie crusts. However, if you want, I recommend our homemade pie crust recipe!

Crispy. First, you will roll out the frozen pie dough and transfer it to the pie pan. Because the pie filling is very sticky, I always dust it with flour after transferring it to the pie pan. Then put the pie dough in the refrigerator while making the filling. Cold pie dough will make the pastry crisper, so I recommend putting the pie dough back in the refrigerator.

filling. The filling is very similar to making pecan pie. You need to stir the eggs together until they are bubbly. Then add corn syrup, brown sugar, corn starch, cinnamon, vanilla extract and salt. The brown sugar adds a delicious caramel flavor, which goes perfectly with cinnamon and vanilla. Corn starch is the key because it helps thicken the filling.

Then stir in the oats and pour the filling into the prepared pie crust.A generation Use instant oats For this recipe, because they cook the pie when they bake it so fragrant and delicious.

notes: Don’t use steel cut oats-they will be hard and brittle. Instant oats are also contraindicated because they act like flour and produce a strange sticky texture instead of a chewy layer on top.

bake. The pie will bake for about 45 minutes-but I recommend checking for about 30 minutes to see if the crust has browned too much. If the crust is already golden, you can add a pie cover to the edge, or simply put some aluminum foil on the edge of the pie to prevent the crust from burning.

Expert tips: make sure Cool the pie completely (At least 4 hours) before slicing. The filling will solidify as the pie cools, so you don’t make a mess. If you want your pie to be hot, you can cut it into slices and heat each slice in the microwave 🙂

Oatmeal pie ingredients + storage

Of course, I prefer oatmeal pie with a tablespoon of vanilla ice cream on top, but you can also try other toppings!

This pie is fine too Made in advance (Very suitable for holidays). Just put the lid on and store in the refrigerator for up to 3 can also freeze Cover the pie tightly and put it in a freezer bag for up to 2 months.

This may not be a very common or typical pie recipe, but I assure you that those who try it will be pleasantly surprised. This is delicious!
