How to Make Mashed Sweet Potatoes

The making of mashed potatoes is not much different from regular mashed potatoes. So you have this. You know what you are doing. But I’ll walk you through it just in case. 😉

cut. Start by dicing your sweet potatoes into small cubes.

boil. Then bring a large pot of water to a boil on the stove. Once the water is boiling, add the sweet potato cubes (you will need to cook the potatoes until fork tender). This will take 20-30 minutes.

mix. The next part uses an electric mixer. This will help make the potatoes less clumpy and smoother–smooth like a buttah. Stir the potatoes on low while adding a little milk.

Add and mix. Add butter and maple syrup and beat until well combined. Then stir in the spices and salt.

Can mashed sweet potatoes be cooked with the skin on?? Yes, however, the skin is not mashed as finely, so larger pieces are left behind which can change the texture of the dish.

What to do with leftovers?

Just in case you have them…

shop. Mashed sweet potatoes will keep in the refrigerator for 3 to 5 days if stored in an airtight container.

Reheat. The quickest way to reheat potatoes is in the microwave. Heat in 30-second increments in a covered microwave-safe dish, stirring in between, until warm. You can also reheat in the oven. Place on an oven-safe plate and cover with foil. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F and bake for 15 minutes or until hot.

freeze. Place mashed potatoes in an airtight freezer container. Freeze up to 8 months.
