Homemade Chicken Nuggets Recipe+Video

We have always liked chicken nuggets. This is fried chicken nuggets, a favorite of the whole family. Delicious, golden and crispy-these nuggets are even better than restaurants!

Can you beat homemade gold nuggets? I don’t think so! This version is great (along with our grilled chicken nuggets) and we like to pair it with homemade ranch sauce or fried sauce.

Homemade nuggets are the best nuggets

With six children, you better believe that we have eaten thousands of yuan in our lifetime. Most of them come from fast food restaurants and restaurants, because they like them so much, I decided to try the homemade version.

After coming up with a recipe and realizing how simple it is, we make dinner at least once or twice a month, and the children declare time and time again that they are better than anything they have eaten outside the house.

I’m glad they like homemade chicken nuggets, not only because it is a simple dinner idea, but also because it saves us several trips (and money) to local fast food restaurants.

Cooking substitutes

I think we all agree that fried food is great (including these nuggets). However, please see the baked version and the air fryer version below, they are equally good and have fewer calories.

  • Baked gold nuggets: After being wrapped in breadcrumbs, place them on a metal rack and put them on a baking sheet lined with foil. Spray with olive oil spray and bake at 400 degrees for 10 minutes. Turn, spray and cook for another 8 minutes. Bake for a few more minutes until golden brown.
  • Air fryer: Preheat the air fryer to 400°F. Spray the basket with reserved spray. Arrange the gold nuggets in a single layer in the basket, making sure that the two sides do not touch. Spray the top of the gold nuggets with olive oil. Cook for about 7 minutes. Repeat for the remaining gold nuggets.

How to make chicken nuggets

Prepare the chicken. Cut the chicken into bite-sized pieces about 1-1.5 inches.

Prepare the bowl. Put flour in a bowl. Add the eggs and water to the second bowl and mix well. In the third bowl, combine the breadcrumbs, parmesan cheese, garlic salt and Italian seasoning. Mix together.

hot oil. Add about 2 inches of oil to the frying pan and heat it over medium heat.

coat. When the oil heats up, coat the chicken with a layer. Coat each nugget with flour and then dip it into the egg mixture. Finally, spread the breadcrumb mixture.

saute. When the oil is ready, put a gold nugget into the oil for testing. It should hiss immediately. If it darkens too quickly without cooking inside, the oil is too hot. Adjust the heat accordingly. Fry the gold nuggets for 3-4 minutes on each side. Place on a metal rack or paper towel, drain and cool.

Storage + side ideas

Whether you want to make these in advance or store them as leftovers, you can choose to store them in the refrigerator for later use, or in the refrigerator to bake them later.

  • Fried: Put the cooled gold nuggets in an airtight container and store in the refrigerator for 4-5 days. Reheat under the broiler until it becomes hot and crispy.
  • Frying in the refrigerator: After coating the chicken in a layer, cover it with plastic wrap, put it in the refrigerator for 1-2 days, and then deep-fry it according to the recipe.
  • Not yet fried in the refrigerator: freeze quickly and transfer to a freezer-safe container. Freeze for 1-2 months. When baking, place the frozen gold nuggets on a baking tray with a metal rack. Bake at 400°F for 25-30 minutes. Crispy under the broiler.
