Cinnamon buns sweetened glaze


The delicious and fragrant cinnamon swirl bun is a quick bread recipe filled with cinnamon specks and covered with a gooey cream glaze!

Goodness of Cinnamon

We are always trying new bread recipes, especially if they don’t involve yeast (yes, this still makes me a little nervous). When we saw the recipe for cinnamon buns (aka cinnamon roll buns), we knew we had to give it a try. We have been making cinnamon buns for many years, but this is one of the recipes that no one can really master except my mother. Speaking of making it very soft, full of cinnamon and sugar, she attributed it to an art.

Fortunately, this cinnamon roll bun is easier and has roughly the same taste as cinnamon buns, but with some cinnamon roll factors that everyone likes (such as glaze).

When you have a delicious, quick bread recipe with delicious brown sugar filling and toppings, and then topped with a delicious glaze, you really want to give it a try. We changed a few things to give it more cinnamon flavor, but we think you will like this bread recipe as much as we do.

Making cinnamon glazed bread

Prepare. Preheat the oven to 350.

Dry ingredients. Combine flour, baking powder, salt and sugar in a small bowl and set aside.

Wet ingredients. Whisk eggs, milk, vanilla and sour cream in a large bowl. Add the flour mixture to the wet ingredients and stir with a spoon until combined.

bake. Pour into the greased baking pan. Combine sugar, cinnamon, and butter in a small bowl to make a swirl of ingredients. Pour it on the bread mixture and screw it into the batter with a knife. Bake for 45-50 minutes (or until finished).

glaze. Let cool on a metal rack for a few minutes. When cooling, mix powdered sugar and milk to make a glaze. Most of a loaf has cooled down, drizzle on the loaf, enjoy!

Tips + storage information

  • If you don’t have sour cream on hand, you can always substitute plain Greek yogurt or cottage cheese, as long as they are not low-fat varieties.
  • Add some raisins, nuts, and even chopped apple slices to this recipe.
  • Bringing cold ingredients (in this case milk, eggs, and sour cream) to room temperature will help them bond better when they are mixed together to make bread with a more uniform texture.

Make it in advance and freeze It’s up to 6 months! For best results, wrap the cooled bread in plastic wrap and store it in a Ziploc freezer bag or wrap it in aluminum foil. It is best to wait until the glaze has been thawed in the refrigerator overnight before adding the glaze. Once you are ready to apply the glaze, it is best to leave the bread at room temperature or to heat it in the microwave for 10-20 seconds.
