What is Chimichanga?

Our family loves delicious Mexican food! As Hispanic, Mexican food is the food I grew up with. One of our favorite dishes happens to be Chimichangas!

What is chimichangas? Chimichanga is a deep-fried burrito that is very popular in Texas-Mexican and Southwestern American cuisine, especially in Arizona.

Making them at home saves time and money, and allows us to choose healthier exchanges, such as baking instead of frying these delicious grilled chimichangas.

Thanks to the use of Knorr® Rice Sides™, they are easy to mix. You only need 8 ingredients and 30 minutes to make these delicious grilled Chimichangas. Isn’t it simple? !

Roast Chicken Chili

This dish is a dish that our whole family likes. It is rich in protein, cheese and a lot of flavor, but not too spicy, which is always a big advantage.

You can use your favorite salsa to customize the flavor to suit your taste (we use traditional medium salsa, but salsa verde will also be delicious)!

Our favorite chimis has chicken, but we also like to make shredded beef and beans versions.

I think you will like this delicious, light version of the classic restaurant! We will definitely add these to our meal rotation-once you try it, I think you will too!

How to make chili sauce:

This is a very simple version of grilled chimichanga. Yes, these can be fried, but we prefer this lighter and healthier version. Here are the chimichanga ingredients required for this particular recipe:

Like most of our recipes, you can customize it to your liking. Use different meats and even change the ingredients inside, but just follow these simple steps to make delicious roasted peppers and they will be delicious!

Chicken mixture. First preheat the oven to 425. Then, mix the cooked shredded chicken with salsa, cumin and oregano and set aside.

Plain rice. Prepare your Knorr Carnival Sides™ rice according to package instructions or rice recipes. Remove from heat source.

Wrap and bake. Add the chicken mixture and cheese. Divide the mixture into flour tortillas, wrap and place the seam side down on a lined baking sheet. Brush with remaining oil and put in the oven for 20 minutes or until golden and crispy.

Toppings. Serve with your favorite ingredients such as: shredded cheese, sour cream, chopped tomatoes, chopped coriander, chopped green onions, chopped lettuce and limes.

Folding, frying and reheating

How to fold chimis? It’s like folding a burrito. Place the meat and rice in the middle of the opened tortilla. Fold the bottom of the tortilla over the mixture, then fold the sides in the middle, and then roll it up.

This may sound confusing, but it’s easy.

How to fry the chili sauce? The advantage of grilled chimichanga is that you can get the same deliciousness without increasing calories. However, if you feel a little indulgent, you can fry chimichangas easily.

Heat a saucepan over medium heat and add 2 inches of vegetable oil. Put the filled and folded chimichanga seam side down into the oil. It rotates every 30 seconds until the surroundings are golden. enjoy!

How to reheat? You can reheat the chimichangas by nuclear frying in the microwave for 30 seconds to 1 minute or reheating in the oven at low temperature. If you want to make it crisper, you can even repaint it with oil.

How to freeze peppers? These grilled chicken chimichangas are a perfect frozen meal. These do not need to be baked in advance. Wrap each individual chimichanga in foil, put them in a freezer bag and label them. They can be frozen for up to 6 months.

When you are ready to eat, take the amount you want from the refrigerator. Preheat the oven and bake at 425 degrees Fahrenheit. Freeze for 35-40 minutes-defrost for 20-25 minutes.

You can’t go wrong with homemade chimichangas. Try this recipe and let us know what you think!
