Caramel + Chocolate Covered Pretzel Bars
Chocolate covered pretzel bars-one of our family’s favorite foods during the holidays. The pretzels are dipped in homemade caramel sauce, then dipped in melted chocolate, topped with white chocolate and your choice of icing sugar.
We like one of the holiday gifts for friends and neighbors. Other classic candies include: Homemade Turtle, Christmas Crackle and Homemade Fudge!
Caramel + Chocolate Covered Pretzel Bars
I think it is safe to say that the entire LUNA clan loves food. I think love is instilled in us because we have so many gatherings centered on it. We usually make a menu and assign tasks to everyone one month before the event (Thanksgiving, Christmas, etc.).
One of the must-have recipes for Christmas now comes from my cousinâs wife, Karen, for the most delicious pretzel sticks. Yes, I have seen them many times at events and boutiques, but hers is by far the best I have! ! The homemade caramel is very soft and the snacks are very good, it is difficult to limit yourself to only one or two. đ
Karen sent me the recipe she used a long time ago, but we finally tried it ourselves and we were even more fascinated! If you like anything covered in chocolate, then I think you should try these. They are so delicious!
How to make chocolate covered pretzel bars
caramel: My cousin’s homemade caramel is delicious and easy to make. However, you can use store-bought caramel to get a faster method.
To make homemade caramel, melt the butter in a pan over medium heat. Add brown sugar, milk and corn syrup. Cook over medium-high heat for 5 to 6 minutes, stirring constantly. Approximately 240 degrees Fahrenheit (the mixture will thicken, a bit brighter, and a bit darker). Remove from heat, add vanilla and stir.
Dip each pretzel in caramel and place it on wax paper. You can choose to repeat this step to get extra slimy pretzels.
Recipe tips: After placing the soaked caramel stick on parchment paper, you may notice some caramel on the bottom. Just let the caramel cool and solidify. Then, while it is still flexible, use your fingers to smooth the caramel around the pretzel stick.
What kind of chocolate to use?
We use Candiquik to make chocolate (or Ghirardelli melted chocolate). It is very similar to almond peel and chocolate pancakes and can be substituted. The Bot also has a vanilla flavour, which works great if you want to dip in a colorful coating. Just add a few drops of food coloring to the melted candy.
tip: When dipping the pretzels in the chocolate, I like not to add a bit of caramel. This way people can see not only chocolate (also caramel) on the bar. If you don’t like caramel, you can simply dip the pretzel in the candy coating.
Follow the instructions to melt the chocolate. When the caramel is a bit sticky to the touch, carefully lift the stick and dip it in the chocolate.
Put it on a piece of clean wax paper to harden it. Make sure to sprinkle your favorite toppings immediately before the chocolate sets to make it stick to the pretzel.
For the beautiful white drizzle, wait for the chocolate to harden, then quickly melt a few pieces of white candy/wafers, and then drizzle on top.
Favorite confectionery ingredients
It is very easy to replace these pretzel sticks. You can do this according to the chocolate you dip (vanilla, milk or dark chocolate) and toppings.
Here are some of our favorites to sprinkle on chocolate as it sets:
- Mashed butter finger candy
- Coconut Crisp
- Heath
- Mini chocolate chips
- Light rain
- Broken Oreo
- Mini M&M
- Chopped nuts
- Holiday sprinkling
There are many great options to change these!
How to store + gifts
Store: These pretzel sticks are partially covered, which means that some pretzels can be seen after dipping. t They can last for 2-3 weeks. If you choose to cover the entire pretzel sticks, then they will last longer.
Great gift: These pretzel sticks are a great gift for any holiday. I will not make them 2-3 days in advance. In this way, they are still fresh, and once the recipient receives them, they will last for several days.
I like to put a few pretzel sticks in a big candy bag and tie it up with a festive ribbon. You can also put them in festive jars.
