Healthy breakfast in minutes!
A healthy breakfast isn’t always easy when you’re running around in the morning to get the kids ready for school and out.
There are no excuses because we want to be healthier and not miss out on the best meal of the day.
To help, hubby and I have created what we think are the best green smoothie recipes that are delicious, healthy, and take just a minute to make.
We fill it up with all the fruits and veggies we love to make it a delicious and perfect breakfast, especially on crazy days.
When it comes to smoothies, we usually buy ingredients in bulk, then take the time to chop everything up and pack in quart-sized freezer bags to freeze. This way we can take it out, add some more ingredients to the blender, and in a few minutes we’re good to go. 🙂
If you try and decide to jump on the green smoothie train, be sure to try our kale smoothie too. This is another favorite!
How to Make a Green Smoothie
mix. Add all ingredients (almond milk, spinach, avocado, vanilla yogurt, chunks of pineapple, chia seeds, and sweetener) to a blender and blend until smooth.
*notes: If the item has not been frozen beforehand, add ½ cup ice to chill.
This makes about 2-3 cups. For more, add ½ cup strawberries, ½ cup spinach, and ½ cup milk or water.
Variety: That’s the beauty of smoothies – you can add or take out whatever you like. Here are a few things we thought would be a great addition to this recipe:
- Berries – strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, blackberries
- Fruits – mangoes, bananas, etc.
- protein powder
- almond or coconut milk
- Yogurt (plain, vanilla, or flavored) or Greek yogurt
How to do it in advance? Make one or more smoothies ahead of time by prepping the ingredients.
Wash, slice and divide the fruit into sized portions and place them in a Ziploc bag in the refrigerator. Yogurt can be frozen in ice cube trays. It’s best to add ice and juice to a smoothie before mixing.
Once your ingredients are prepared like this, you can take them straight from the refrigerator into the blender!
How to store? Just add a little lemon juice or Sure Fresh so the smoothie doesn’t brown. If there is a little room at the top of the container, cut a piece of plastic wrap and place it directly on top of the smoothie.
Store in the refrigerator for 12 hours or up to 3 months in the refrigerator.
