Homemade fruit peel
Today I have a very interesting recipe to share with you! Have you ever made your own fruit leather? It’s very easy to make and very delicious! The peel of this sweet strawberry is very simple, but it is full of strawberry flavor and tastes much better than store-bought ones.
One of my favorite things is picking berries. Last summer, we went to a local farm every few weeks and picked more than 50 pounds of berries in total! We can jar jams, make berry syrups, freeze berries to make smoothies, and bake various pies and potato chips. However, one of the children’s favorite things that we make with abundant berries is this sweet and delicious peel. This is a great way to keep these fresh berries with a longer shelf life. It is the perfect snack for lunch boxes and adventures.
The great thing is that you can definitely make this fruit peel from other berries, or even other fruits such as peaches or apricots. No matter which fruit you use, you will need about 4 cups of fruit at the beginning. Homemade fruit peel is so easy and fun, I can’t wait to try it with all our summer bounties!
How to make fruit peels
Although it takes a little time to make it, it’s completely hands-free and very easy.
mix. Mix the berries with a little lemon juice and sugar, spread the mixture on a baking sheet
bake. Bake at low temperature until it dries.
When the peel is dry to the touch, rather than wet or sticky, you can tell that the peel is ready. Let the peel cool completely, then roll it up with parchment paper to prevent sticking. I cut them into strips with pre-cut parchment paper. I cut each plate of fruit peels into 8 strips, they are the perfect portion for my kids.
Recipe tips
You can Frozen fruits can also be used. Let it thaw completely before mixing.

Use instead of silicone gasket: This formula works best when using silicone gaskets. However, if you don’t have one, you can line your pan with parchment paper. Once the peel is dry, let it cool down a bit, but remove it from the paper while it is still a bit hot, otherwise it may stick to the paper.
Sweetener selection: A big advantage of fruit leather is that it does not technically require any sweeteners. We added some sugar to the recipe because this is our favorite, but you can use less sugar, artificial sweeteners, honey, agave or nothing at all.
Enjoy the fun of making fruit leather. Switch your fruit selection and even make combinations. She is some ideas that make you think:
- Peaches, apricot plums, blueberries, raspberries
- Add spices such as cinnamon or cloves
- Roll up your fruit peel with a little peanut butter or other nut butter
- Combine your fruits: strawberry/peach, strawberry/banana, blueberry/raspberry. The combinations are endless.
ricePut the fruit peels in the dehydrator. Most dehydrators come with manuals with instructions, so please refer to them if you have one. If not, you can line the trays with parchment paper. Spread your fruit out so that the center is a little thinner than the edges, so that it “cooks” more evenly. Let it dry for several hours until the leather is not wet or sticky.

- 2 teaspoons lemon juice
- 1/2 cup sugar

Preheat the oven to 170. (If your oven does not go as low as 170, please preheat it to the lowest temperature setting.) Line up two baking pans with a silicone liner and set them aside.
-
Add strawberries, lemon juice, and sugar to a blender or food processor and blend until smooth.
-
Pour half of the mixture on each prepared baking sheet and spread into a thin and even layer.
-
Bake in a preheated oven for 3-4 hours, rotating the pan after 1.5 hours. After 3 hours, tap the peel lightly to test the ripeness. If it feels dry rather than moist or sticky, the peel is complete. (If you bake at a temperature higher than 170, the baking time will be reduced.)
