Tips, Changes + Stored Information

Get the most juice from lemons: You really want to get the most juice out of each lemon, and there are a few tricks to doing that.

  1. Soak them in hot water, which is what we do for this recipe. Then roll the lemon on the counter to further help get the most juice.
  2. Another trick is to freeze them. Toss a whole lemon in the freezer for a few hours until it freezes solid. Soak lemons in warm water or place them on the counter to thaw them. I’ve actually frozen whole lemons before and I can attest that they get super soft and all the liquid is released.
  3. Finally, use the microwave. I haven’t tried it myself but saw it online. This seems to be the same idea as soaking them in water. You microwave each lemon for about 30 seconds to help release the juices, then roll them out on the counter. Let me know how it works in the comments if you try it.

Recipe changes:

  • lime juice: Just use lime instead of lemon. It’s simple!
  • Strawberry Lemonade: Put the sliced strawberries in a bowl and add a little sugar. Let them sit and mash. Mix the puree into lemonade, to whatever flavor preference you want (or check out our favorite strawberry lemonade).

dress up: I think a really nifty demo makes homemade lemonade taste even better. Here are some of my favorite demo ideas:

  • Adding lemon slices to the drink makes it so pretty. You can even take it a step further and freeze the lemon slices first so you can chill the drink without diluting it with traditional ice cubes.
  • Top with a sprig of simple mint
  • Add sugar to the rim of the water glass: Just dip the rim of the glass in some lemonade, then drop it into a bowl of sugar. Let dry.
