Two types of chocolate are used in the homemade pudding, so it has a rich chocolate flavor. If you prefer mild chocolate, you can use milk chocolate chips, or omit the cocoa powder. up to you!

How to Make Chocolate Cream Pie

To make this easy chocolate pie, start with homemade pudding on the stovetop.

  • 1 9-inch baked pastry shell
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 1 1/4 cups chopped semisweet chocolate
  • 2/3 cup sugar
  • 3 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa powder
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 3 egg yolks beaten
  • 1/2 cup whipped cream
  • 2 cups milk
  • Combine butter and chopped chocolate in a large glass or metal bowl; set aside

  • In a large saucepan, whisk together sugar, cornstarch, cocoa and salt. Slowly add ½ cup cream until mixture is completely smooth.beat in egg yolk

  • Add the milk and stir until the mixture is well combined. Reduce heat to medium and cook and stir until mixture comes to a boil. Cook for a minute, stirring constantly.

  • Place a strainer over a bowl of chocolate and butter. Pour the hot chocolate mixture into a strainer to remove any lumps. Let sit for a few minutes, then stir until butter and chocolate are melted.

  • Place a bowl of pudding in a sink filled with ice water and stir gently for a few minutes until cooled to room temperature.

  • Pour into pie shell. Cover with plastic wrap and chill for a few hours or overnight.

  • Just before serving, whip 1 cup cream until soft peaks form. Add vanilla and powdered sugar. Spread over pie and garnish with chocolate curls if desired.
