Slice + Season. Combine cinnamon and sugar in a flat dish. Slice apples horizontally and add to cinnamon/sugar mixture.

bake. Take a cooling rack and place it on the cookie sheet. Place each apple slice in a single layer on a cooling rack. Put it in the oven at 200 degrees and bake for 2-3 hours. Flip the apples halfway so they cook evenly. When they are ready, they should be dry but still pliable.

Tips, Changes + Stored Information

Best apples for apple slices: We usually use Honeycrisp or Gala, but other varieties that work well include: Granny Smith, Fuji, Goldrush, Pink Lady and Cortland.

Dehydrator: I prefer to make apple slices in the oven, but if you want to make apple slices in a dehydrator, cook them at 135F for 6-8 hours until they are dry and crisp.

Air fryer: If you prefer to make them in the air fryer, cook and bake them for 8 minutes at 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Make sure to flip them halfway through to cook evenly and crisp!

bake

  • You may notice that the apple slices have different colors. If the apple has more moisture before baking, it will turn darker.
  • If you don’t have a cooling rack, you can line the baking sheet with a parchment or foil pad to keep the apple slices from sticking to the baking sheet. You have to make sure to flip them halfway through as no convection baking is happening.

Apple

  • The thinner the slices, the better. They will be crispier than thick slices. The most important thing is to make sure they are the same size so they bake at the same speed.
  • If you have some bruised apples, you can easily cut those parts off before baking.

Variety:

  • only sprinkled with sugar
  • add a little paprika
  • Using Pumpkin Pie Spice

Do the same with almost any fruit! If you plan to make different fruits, be careful about the crispness!

shop Place your apple slices in an airtight container at room temperature. They will last about a week. But you’ll most likely eat them all before the week ends. 😉

freeze Store leftover baked apple slices in freezer bags. Make sure to let them cool completely before freezing.
