Frito Pie is full of creamy and crunchy texture, and great taco-style flavor. This easy dish is ready in just over 30 minutes!

Frito pie isn’t actually a pie, it’s a Fritos casserole with delicious toppings! Ours had a creamy layer of beef, lots of cheese, and some fresh soda. It’s kind of similar to some of our other favorite dinners – Dorito Casserole and Tamale Pie!

Quick, easy and delicious

Fritoism became popular in the central and southwestern United States a few years ago.

It usually includes peppers, Fritos, and cheese (YUM!) While there are many variations, I think ours is pretty tasty.

We turned that chili into a creamy, meaty layer with a chili flavor in it. Fresh tomatoes and avocado add the perfect finishing touch on top.

Frito Pie is super easy to make and doesn’t mess up a lot of dishes…another bonus! You can mix it up by adding beans or jalapeños (if you want more spice). This is sure to be a weeknight dinner win.

Decorate. Let the Frito pie cool for 5 minutes, then top with tomatoes, avocado, and cilantro.

Change and service concept

Variety: One of the great things about casseroles is that they are very forgiving when you want to make a change. This Frito Pie Casserole is no exception, so ideas for variations include:

  • Replace ground beef with ground turkey, chicken, or pork.
  • Substitute red hot sauce for green.
  • Replace the fries: flavored fries, regular nachos, Doritos.
  • Add some veggies: zucchini and diced peppers are delicious.
  • Use your favorite cheese, such as cheddar or Mexican blend.

Service philosophy: Another reason casseroles are best is that they usually stand alone without any additional preparation. However, if you want to add more to your meal, Spanish rice is delicious. You can even prepare a plate of tortillas and wrap the casserole in a burrito.

lead and store

Do it in advance: In order to make it a day ahead, you need to complete all steps except baking. Cover the pan with plastic wrap and store in the refrigerator.

if you want freeze It, then you need to wrap it again in foil and store in the refrigerator for 1-2 months. Thaw in the refrigerator before baking and add a layer of freshly grated cheese on top before baking.

Leftovers: Divide leftovers into individual servings and shop in an airtight container. Refrigerate for 2-3 days or freeze for 1-2 months. Reheat in microwave or oven.
