Easy Spinach Puff Recipe+Video

Buttered spinach puffs are cheese-flavored, salty, with bacon. As you can imagine, they are very popular at parties!

If we are hosting a party, you can count on these spinach puffs as an appetizer. We usually serve them other of our favorite foods, including bacon-wrapped smoke, cucumber sandwiches and some kind of dipping sauce!

Quick + easy appetizer

I have many favorite appetizer recipes, and sometimes it is difficult to choose which recipes I want to make for parties or family gatherings.

I told you before that my family got together to play games and eat lots of appetizers on New Year’s Eve. Well, this spinach meringue appetizer is almost always part of the appetizer!

They are everything you want for appetizers. The outer layer is cheese, salty and crispy, and the inner layer is creamy…Basically they are the best.

You may need to double the recipe to make sure there are enough party guests to eat! Believe me, these spinach bubbles disappeared soon!

How to make spinach puffs

filling. Heat the cream cheese in the microwave for 10 seconds at a time until it is soft and melted but not steaming. Add eggs, oil and dill to the cream cheese and mix well. In a separate bowl, combine spinach, feta and bacon. Pour the cream cheese mixture on top and season with salt and pepper. Mix it together with a fork.

Note: You can use frozen spinach. Be sure to squeeze out the excess liquid, otherwise the puffs may become too wet.

Shortcrust pastry. Cut the pastry slice into 9 squares. Align the muffin pan with the cut squares (you may need to lengthen them a bit). Press into the bottom of the muffin cup. Divide the spinach evenly among the cups.

Baking + serving. Put your 4 pastry spots together, cover the fillings, and press them together. Brush lightly with melted butter. Bake at 400 degrees for about 20 minutes, until golden and fluffy. Let cool for 10 minutes, then use a knife around the edges to loosen and help eject them.

Variety

In the mini muffin tin: You must adjust the size of the cut pastry by cutting 18 squares instead of 9. Otherwise the direction is the same. Bake at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for 10-15 minutes.

I like these spinach puffs, but the good thing about them is that you can Customize them to your liking:

  • Replace bacon with diced ham
  • Add diced mushrooms
  • Replace the feta cheese with ricotta granola or mozzarella cheese

Make in advance

The good news is that you can make these spinach puffs in advance, This will give you enough time to prepare everything else in advance! You have several options to choose from:

  • Complete these 3 hours in advance. Cover the pan with plastic film and store in the refrigerator. Bake without a lid at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for 20 minutes.
  • Fill only: The filling can be made ahead of time and stored in a closed container in the refrigerator for 1-2 days or in the refrigerator for 1-2 months. Thaw, if applicable, assemble and bake according to instructions.
  • Freeze uncooked: Follow the recipe instructions to assemble, except put them in the refrigerator instead of the oven. Let them freeze for 2-3 hours, then remove them from the muffin tin and put them in an airtight freezer container. Freeze for 1-2 months. When you are ready to bake them, put the frozen puffs back in the muffin tin. Bake at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for 25-30 minutes or until cooked through.
  • Freeze baking: After the puffs are baked, let them cool. Place the puffs in an airtight freezer-safe container and separate the layers with parchment paper. Freeze for 1-2 months. Reheat in the oven before serving.

So delicious, perfect for any party, party or vacation. 😉
