What’S The Difference Between Trail Mix And Chex Mix?

Compared to a regular bag of Chex Mix, you’ll find a plethora of differences. The only thing that remains the same is the presence of corn Chex pieces. Beyond that, the wheat Chex pieces have been traded out in favor of yogurt and cocoa Chex pieces.

In 1952 an advertisement for Chex party mix appeared in Life Magazine with a recipe that included Wheat and Rice Chex. In 1958 Corn Chex was introduced and added to the recipe. However, it was not until 1985 that pre-packaged products were introduced commercially by Ralston Purina and the trademarks registered to it.

New Chex Mix flavors can be completely different, however. Not only are some of the new flavors sweet or spicy instead of savory, but the composition of the mixture also varies widely from mix to mix.

While the colors of the packaging are very similar compared to the Honey Nut Cheerios box, Honey Nut Chex Mix is sweeter and saltier than its cereal counterpart. While the fabled cereal has a nearly perfectly balanced flavor profile, that can’t be said about this variety of Chex Mix.
