According to Pizza Hut, after nearly 40 years on the menu (one of the company’s oldest offerings) the Pan Pizza was ready to have a little work done. That included a three-year development process which culminated with a change to the sauce and cheese ratio, as well as reengineering the actual pan the pizza cooks in to optimize crust texture.

The company, owned by Yum Brands (YUM), said it “focused on combining art, science and culinary expertise” to improve the pan pizza. The relaunched pizza is available nationwide beginning Tuesday and costs $7.99 for a limited time.

This week, Pizza Hut announced that it’s now rolling out a new (and allegedly improved) pan pizza that incorporates a different type of cheese and a new baking process meant to enhance the crust’s flavor.

Perfected over those years by the Pizza Hut culinary team, the Original Pan boasts a buttery golden-brown color, with a crispy, crunchy outer crust and a soft and fluffy inside, topped with a blend of sauce and perfectly melted cheese designed to complement the crust’s legendary soft center.

Standard is no currently crust flavor. However, you can add garlic buttery sauce to give it a bit of extra flavor or the Hut Favorite finisher, which is garlic buttery sauce mixed with parsley & parmesan. Those two are the most common. There’s also toasted parmesan and buttery sauce (Standard on stuffed crusts ).

Pans are more labor intensive and cost more, but Pizza Hut was ok with averaging out that extra cost until now. Now they charge more because in addition to the labor, the ingredients now make the pan more expensive since you’re getting more of certain ingredients on pans than you do on other doughs.
