The impossible sliders at White Castle are vegan. Just make sure to order with no cheese. Some locations offer a Daiya dairy-free cheese.
If you order it without the cheese, the Impossible Slider is vegan. White Castle’s burger bun is vegan, as is the Impossible Burger itself. The Slider is prepared on a separate griddle, but because it’s prepared in a shared kitchen, White Castle can’t guarantee that your meal will be 100% vegan.
The plain Impossible Slider is considered vegan; however, it is prepared in the same area as meat products. Without cheese, this was even less appetizing. The pickle and onions still helped give the slider some flavor, but the cheddar cheese really helped masked the inadequacy of the Impossible patty taste.
White Castle, famous for it’s mini-sized, eat-’em-by-the-bagful sliders is putting the Impossible Burger on the menu. Starting April 12, diners in New York, New Jersey, and the Chicago area can find a vegan slider option at 140 of the burger chain’s locations. The burger by itself will retail for $1.99 or can be purchased as part of a combo meal.
White Castle Debuts Vegan-Friendly Impossible Sliders The fast-food chain now offers mini plant-based burgers for $1.99 at 140 locations across New York, New Jersey, and Chicago. by Anna Starostinetskaya April 11, 2018
The first of White Castle’s two plant based sliders is their “Veggie Slider”. The Veggie Slider is a patty made by Dr. Praeger’s Sensible Foods which includes peas, carrots, zucchini, spinach, and broccoli. As listed on the menu, the Veggie Slider comes with Ranch or Honey Mustard – neither of which are vegan.
One of the newest additions to the plant-based fast-food lineup is the White Castle Impossible Slider. I went out and tried it for myself. Burger King’s Impossible Whopper, for reference, has been getting such good reviews that most people can’t distinguish between the plant-based version and the original Whopper.
Unfortunately, it appears that White Castle has discontinued their Black Bean Sliders. These sliders consisted of a patty made from black beans, red peppers, and corn and were vegan-friendly as listed on the menu. However, keep an eye out for these to possibly return in the future as they made a month long return in 2018.
Make your Impossible Slider vegan by simply removing the cheese (or swapping it for vegan cheese, if they offer it at your location). Top your Slider with onion and pickle slices, just like all of White Castle’s Sliders.
