Is Kroger Cheaper Than Publix?

Kroger is cheaper than Publix for most store brand items by a range of 10% to 50%. Kroger offers the best price for a majority of shopping categories. More specifically Kroger has better prices in seven out of the eight most common shopping categories.

Kroger was $8.58 cheaper than Publix for the 20 items included in the price comparison. That’s more than 20%! Of course, the price isn’t the only thing that’s important to shoppers.

Publix is just better in pretty much every way. The only place where Kroger has an edge is they generally have a better olive bar and bigger cheese selection. The Kroger locations that have the big Murphy’s Cheese area are wonderful. They have some of the best cheese selection, plus olives and other cheese plate accoutrements.

You could find 100 items at Publix that are cheaper than Walmart, and Publix makes a big deal about this with in-store signs. But excluding BOGOs, Walmart will be cheaper straight up on most items. I’d recommend doing your shopping at Walmart, but keep your Publix app handy.

One huge difference I know between Kroger and Publix…the store brand chicken at Kroger is “up to 15% solution” but Publix does not have any added solutions. No paying for extra water and salt in my chicken.

Yes Publix is on whole more expensive, but if you’re disciplined and shop for the weekly “buy one, get one free” deals and stay away from the overpriced items you can save a lot. We routinely by coffee, pasta, pasta sauce, meat, frozen vegetables (e.g., foods that can be stored for longer periods) for half price and stock up enough to last till they are on sale again. Keep an eye out for a reliable, frost-free freezer on sale.
