What Are Good Finger Foods?

Inexpensive serving dishes

  • Dollar store – They have many plastic cut glass-looking serving bowls and trays.
  • Party store – Now there are many paper and plastic products that look like china or metal at a fraction of the cost.
  • Thrift stores – This is one of my favorite places to find serving pieces. They don’t have to match just have a general feel for the theme of a party.

Food for thought: Facilitating independence with finger foods

  • Dementia-friendly finger foods. Miniature versions of foods are often better than cutting up larger items, as this creates a more stable product that is less likely to fall apart.
  • Food safety. Ideally, finger foods are served at room temperature (with hot foods allowed to cool) or comprise non-perishable ingredients.

What is string cheese?

String cheese is pressed in a bread crumb mixture and baked for an easy and healthier alternative to traditional mozzarella sticks. “Made them as an after school snack and they were gone before I could take a picture,” says reviewer The Wild Jackii.

Some of these finger foods can stand alone, while others might be best served with an array of other mini foods. Kids and adults alike will enjoy these pick-up dinner foods, no silverware necessary (so cleanup is a breeze).

Chicken nuggets can get old sometimes. Recipe creator nt_bella says, “Change up your dinner routine with these crispy chicken fritters, a great alternative to chicken nuggets. Kids will love these, and leftovers are great in sandwiches. Serve with chips and a salad.”

Recipe creator cassandra describes this as, “A vegetarian version of mini sausage rolls but made with a spin ach and feta filling. I used frozen spinach because it was a better buy than fresh at the time but the equivalent amount of fresh spinach, chopped and wilted, would do the job.”
