Iftar Review: Celcius Restaurant, voco Dubai

Every table is filled with dried fruit, within easy reach when breaking the fast; followed by watering to quench thirst. Thereafter, diners are encouraged to pick their favourites from the sumptuous Iftar buffet.

Expecting a counter full of cashews, plums, raisins, almonds and dates, opposite a stall serving icy Jallab, Laban and Qamar al din, I chose to try. After posting this, we found Baba ghanoush, Tabbouleh, Quinoa Salad, Greek Salad, and Chicken Hawaiian Salad, loaded with crisp veggies, and a DIY salad station perfect for those who like to make their own nutritious dishes . Next is Moutabal, Labneh and Mint, Muhammara and Hummus. This was followed by hot and cold appetizers including vine leaves, Kibbeh, falafel and shawarma, cheese rolls, Arabic lentil soup and Moroccan lamb harira soup.

After stacking our plates high, we went back to the table to enjoy our meals. After a short respite, we sat down and chatted with our friends at the table.

Diners can indulge in more hearty options including rice noodles, pasta with sauce, seafood biryani and the long-awaited lamb udzi, served with spiced rice and boneless meat. When it comes to meat, look for a bite of lamb kofta and chicken tawook, or a juicy lamb skewer. Alternatively, the delicious Potato Chicken and Earthy Lamb Gumbo are designed to please; while a modern twist on Beef Steak with Mushroom Sauce and Roasted Potatoes will satisfy meat lovers. Steamed vegetables, Paneer tikka and Fish harra complete the myriad of iftar dishes.

Full, but not enough to skip dessert, we walked over to the candy counter to pick our favorites. Choose from fresh fruit custard, raspberry cheesecake slices, creamy rice pudding, arabesque mohalabia and the iconic Umm Ali. Not finished yet, the picture platter is stacked with Halawet el jibn, Basbousa, Pistachio Turkish Delight, Katayef Nuts, Turkish Baklava, the crowd-favorite Cheese kunafa, Balah el sham, Maamoul dates and more. Suffice it to say, you will leave with a very happy dinner.
