Instant ham recipe quick + easy!
Instant Pot Ham is the easiest main dish! When you are preparing for an Easter feast, the Instant Pot is a great way to free up space in the oven, and it can heat ham in record time.
We have been using the Crock Pot Ham recipe to make holiday ham for a long time, but I love this new Instant Pot version! It can easily spend time on all delicious aspects, such as cheese potatoes and homemade bread rolls. 😉
The easiest Instant Pot Ham
Has anyone received the Instant Pot during the holidays? We love ours and use it all the time!
I like that it cuts cooking time in half and makes recipes easier. We decided to try ham, and it turned out to be so delicious and juicy, it will definitely be the first choice for the holidays. Go open that instant pot, read this delicious and simple ham recipe, and start cooking!
We always eat ham on Easter Sunday. Juicy and delicious ham is something I have been craving for during the holidays. It can feed a large group of people, everyone likes it, and it can make a lot of leftovers. This recipe is quick (it only takes 15 minutes in the Instant Pot!) and only requires a few simple steps. After the ham is cooked, it is fragrant and delicious. You will fall in love with it.
What type of ham should I eat?
I used spiral sliced ham in this recipe, but there are many other delicious options. Keep in mind that you may need to adjust the “manual” cooking time of the Instant Pot according to the type and size you purchased. Here are a few different types of ham to choose from:
- City Ham vs Country Ham: Avoid country ham. They are undercooked like prosciutto. Here is a city ham. Often referred to as “holiday ham”. They are pre-cooked and may say “marinated, smoked, or roasted.” ,
- Calf vs ass: The calf is the bottom of the ham, which is fatter. Long bones are easy to carve. The butt is the top of the ham. Because of the T-shaped bone, the carving is more delicate and trickier. Both the calf and buttocks can be boneless and compressed into oval ham chunks.
- Spiral sliced ham: They are usually pre-cooked. These can be bone or boneless, and pre-cut into thin slices. Spiral cutting makes carving very easy, and can make beautiful, thin, uniform slices, which are perfect for making leftover sandwiches…sometimes they already have a flavor, so if you want to make your own glaze, please check Label.
What size should I buy? Bone-in ham needs about ⅓-½ lb per person, and boneless ham needs ¼-⅓ lb per person. A 6-quart jar can hold 5-6 pounds of ham. An 8-quart pan should hold 7-8 pounds of ham. If necessary, you can cut a portion of the ham at any time to make the ham fit. Freeze the part to cook later.
Note: Depending on the size of the Instant Pot, you may need to find a smaller spiral ham-we found ours at Walmart.
How to make Instant Pot Ham
It’s time to start eating ham! First stir the jam, brown sugar, orange juice, mustard and black pepper in a small bowl. Put this glaze aside. Spray the inside of the Instant Pot with cooking spray, then put the ham into it with the fat side up. Spread the glaze on the whole ham.
Put the lid on the Instant Pot and cook for 15 minutes on the meat setting. Let the pot release naturally. Take the ham out and reglaze with the leftovers in the pan. Slice and serve while hot! How easy is this?
Internal temperature The reading should be 135-140°F. If you need to cook longer, just replace the lid, set the manual time to 3 minutes, and wait 10 minutes to decompress.
Why wrap your ham in foil: Many people choose to wrap the ham in foil or parchment paper. The aluminum foil will help the ham maintain its flavor while reducing the risk of burning and drying out.
For the caramel glaze: This is most effective for non-coiled or bone-in ham. (When transferring from the Instant Pot, the boneless spiral ham does not hold its shape well.) Line a baking sheet with foil. Remove the ham from the Instant Pot and place it on foil. Brush the glaze and bake for a few minutes. Observe carefully to avoid burning.
Store + reuse leftovers
You might eat some leftovers from this ham. The good news is that it is very well stored and can make very delicious leftovers! You can store it in the refrigerator or freezer.
- Refrigerator: Put the ham in an airtight container and store it in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
- Freezer: Put the ham in the Ziploc freezer, press out the air, and freeze it for 2-3 months. Thaw before use.
