Why Did They Change From Taco Bell To Pizza Hut In Demolition Man?

Demolition Man (1993) Taco Bell or Pizza Hut? I watched Demolition Man just after it came out in 1993 on VHS. In it there’s a scene where they go to a fancy restaurant in the future and it’s explained that in the restaurant wars Pizza Hut won so now every Restaurant is a Pizza Hut.

For some non-American releases, references to Taco Bell were changed to Pizza Hut, since the former was virtually unknown in many foreign countries at the time. This includes dubbing, plus changing the logos during post-production. Taco Bell remains in the closing credits.

Video and Television versions of this film have most references to Taco Bell removed and replaced with Pizza Hut. This includes the dinner scene – with new scenes that were specially shot for countries where Taco Bell has no significant presence but Pizza Hut is well known.

Spartan is incredulous about the idea of “dinner and dancing” at a fast-food joint. Huxley’s explanation that all restaurants are now Taco Bells doesn’t change his attitude much.

Why did Pizza Hut win the Franchise Wars?

Conventional wisdom holds that Pizza Hut became the Franchise Wars winner in Europe because it had a greater international presence. References to Pizza Hut were added to Demolition Man in post-production. That includes everything from logos to actual dialogue from Stallone and Bullock dubbed in during their drive to dinner.

Beyond being one of Sandra Bullock’s first big roles, Demolition Man is memorable for depicting a rare oppressively pleasant Utopian future. Stallone’s Sergeant John Spartan is a time-displaced fish out of water. That leads to some of the film’s most memorable jokes, including the Three Sea Shells and “the Franchise Wars.”.

In the version of Demolition Man released in the United States, Taco Bell is the only restaurant that remains in the year 2032.

The commercial is set in a dystopian future ruled by a thinly veiled McDonald’s, complete with Joker Gang -esque henchmen. Taco Bell is an integral part of Demolition Man’s legacy in the U.S., but in European markets, it was replaced by Pizza Hut.

Is Taco Bell on DVD or Blu Ray?

The UK Blu-ray is the original Taco Bell version. I also have the Scandinavian Blu-ray which is the Pizza Hut version, so not even all region B Blu-ray copies are the same. The original UK cinema, VHS and DVD releases were all Taco Bell.

The Guardian reports that the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film has a plot device involving a Pizza Hut delivery, but that Pizza Hut don’t operate in Manhattan where the Turtles live. So presumably this is all down to product placement. 0.
