New York (CNN Business) Dunkin’ is permanently closing 8% of its United States locations, which amounts to roughly 800 restaurants. The company announced the changes in its second quarter earnings, released Thursday.

In short, these Dunkin’ locations inside of gas stations were underperforming even before the global pandemic hit. Even though there are nine states where Dunkin’ doesn’t do business, they still manage the be the #1 doughnut retailer in the United States and claims to sell more than 2.9 billion doughnuts and 2 billion cups of coffee each year.

A Dunkin’ branch in Colorado Springs has temporarily closed because it can’t find enough workers. “We’re in a major labor crisis,” said the CEO of a franchisee that manages seven Dunkin’ stores. The store had three workers on the rota before it closed, The Colorado Springs Gazette reported .
