Is Greek Yogurt Paleo Friendly?

Most Paleo followers can agree that a large portion of Greek yogurt products are unacceptable due their ingredients and manufacturing processes that turn the yogurt into an all but pure product. Ultimately, the decision to include or not include dairy into Paleo lies with the individual.

It’s a popular alternative to traditional yogurt, and contains much more protein per serving than the usual stuff you’d get from Dannon or Yoplait ( 16 ). Greek yogurt is still a dairy product.

But if that’s not quite right for you, you can actually make or buy several different dairy-free “yogurt” options, featuring a variety of Paleo milk substitutes (see above). Store-bought products: Look for cultured coconut milk, almond milk, or other nut milks – just always make sure you check the ingredients!

The difference is in the preparation. Greek yogurt is strained during production, which removes a lot of the whey, lactose (milk sugar), and water. You end up with a creamier yogurt that can keep you feeling full for a long time.
