Can You Really Save At Aldi?

According to Aldi, with these brands, customers can save up to 50% on over 1,300 of the most commonly purchased grocery items. But, it does offer a limited selection of national brands too.

Then Aldi is not the place for you. To save money on labor and materials, Aldi does not provide free grocery bags. We usually bring our own, but on the not-as-rare-as-I-would-like occasion that I forget, you can buy grocery bags for 5 or 10 cents, or even use empty boxes left on the store shelves.

This could be a bad thing if the store brand is no good, but in the case of Aldi they go above and beyond to make sure they carry quality products. Our family often prefers the Aldi brand to a name brand – be it yogurt, deli meat, peanut butter, you name it.

There are a few rules to follow that keep Aldis prices low: Aldi stores accept only cash, debit or food stamps. They don’t accept coupons. You have to pay a .25 deposit to get a shopping basket. There is a little quarter machine on the basket. You bag your own groceries at Aldi stores. Bring your own bags.

How much does Aldi save?

More than 90% of the store’s products are Aldi exclusive brands. According to Aldi, with these brands, customers can save up to 50% on over 1,300 of the most commonly purchased grocery items. But, it does offer a limited selection of national brands too.

Get booze for less. If you want to save money on booze, as well as food, then Aldi is a great place to shop. The store offers wine, spirits, and beer at really low prices. You can get wine for $4 a bottle and rum for $6 per bottle.

Aldi has its own line of healthy food items, called Fit & Active. In this line, you’ll find tons of healthy foods, like low-fat and low-calorie items. But, you’ll pay much less for them at Aldi than you would at stores like Whole Foods. They also feature a really big selection of gluten free items, at a low cost.

As Aldi features its own exclusive brands, it provides customers with the same high-quality items, but there are no extra costs involved, like marketing or advertising, which often bump up the cost of products from national brands. There is no doubt that you can save money at Walmart and Target. But there’s another store that’s giving them a run for their money – Aldi. It’s a chain of no-frills grocery stores that originated in Germany.

How much does salmon cost at Aldi?

Aldi carries wild-caught (not farmed – important distinction) salmon for $3.99/lb. I honestly don’t know how they get it that cheap! It’s a great deal compared to the $10.99+ you’d pay at another store, and even beats out most farmed salmon prices.

There is an aisle in the middle of the store with “Aldi Finds” – a collection of random things at amazing prices. You might find deck chairs, Easter candy, cookware, decorative baskets, and who knows what else!

In order to save money, Aldi usually only has 5 or 6 employees working in the ENTIRE STORE. I don’t think I’ve ever seen more than 2 checkout lines open, and needless to say, nobody is there to bag your groceries. In case you’re worried about the time it takes to check out, don’t fear.

This also allows Aldi to pack in an amazing array of products in a small space. The average Aldi’s is around 12,000 square feet vs. 150,000+ for a Wal-Mart or Costco.

If you have young kids like us, Aldi’s has their Little Journey line of baby products such as diapers, wipes, baby food, and bath products.

And you don’t have to clip coupons to get that price. Hooray! While Aldi doesn’t carry everything on our shopping list, we do the majority of our shopping here.

One of the ways Aldi saves you money is by offering almost all products under a private label. Instead of 27 different brands of peanut butter, you just get one or two to choose from.
