McDonald’s is bringing back its Spicy Chicken McNuggets, but only for a limited time. The item debuted in September 2020. The nuggets are made with a tempura coating flavored with cayenne and chili peppers. They’re available at about 7,000 restaurants now.
The nuggets have have a a breaded tempura coating of cayenne and chili peppers, packing a more flavorful punch compared to its regular chicken nuggets. The chain credits the nuggets for boosting sales two years ago during the initial onset of the pandemic.
The spicy nuggets are the first “flavored” version of the original McDonald’s nugget recipe. The first Chicken McNuggets were released in the late 1970s and became more available by 1983. Chicken McNuggets have an average price of $4.49 for 10 pieces.
About half of America’s McDonald’s locations are getting back the spicy nuggs which were launched in 2020 in the wake of Wendy’s spicy chicken nugget success and billed at the time by MickeyD’s as the “first time we’ve introduced a new flavor of our classic Chicken McNuggets in the U.S. since they came to menus in 1983.”
